Carrier Cursader Furnace

Last week (Nov 12 2009), our twenty year old furnace quit working as the temperature started to dip. Here is what I 've observed. The inducer motor would come on after I turned on the thermostat, the ignition element glows red but the gas failed to turn on. First I thought maybe it was the thermostat, so I took the thermostat off and changed the battery inside. I had upgraded it to a digital type a few years ago. The same process repeating but the gas was never turned on.

I did some research online and found a post indicating the circuit boards for Carrier furnace were prone to failure and should be replaced. After further examination of my circuit board, I had found that there were some burned marks on the board next to some resistors.

My furnace model started with 58SSC with circuit board # CES0110048-00. Later I found out an improved circuit board # CES0110057-02 were to replace all previous version. The price online ranged from $165 to around $300 from several vendors.

To make the story short, I found an used board on ebay CES0110057-01 for $37 and after swap out the old board, now I am a happy camper again.

BTW the air condition and heating company that never returned my call ........You just save me $400
